Dear Members of the NJCU Community,

It is with profound sadness that we share the sudden passing of Loyda Goldston, a beloved recruitment coordinator in our (OSP/EOF) department. Loyda passed away on August 10 In Jersey City — just two days after celebrating her 52nd birthday.

Loyda embodied the very mission of NJCU. Beginning her own higher education journey as an EOF scholar at Hudson County Community College, she transferred to NJCU where she earned her bachelor's degree in Accounting in 2015, followed by her graduate degree in Business Administration.

When Loyda joined our OSP team in 2018 as a Recruitment Assistant, her exceptional dedication and natural ability to connect with students quickly distinguished her. Promoted to Recruitment Coordinator in 2019, she became far more than an administrator—she became a guiding light for numerous first-generation college students navigating unfamiliar territory. Her warmth, patience, and unwavering belief in her students' potential touched countless lives.

Beyond her professional role, Loyda served on the Council on Hispanic Affairs (CHA) executive board, .

Loyda's greatest achievement was her family. She leaves behind three children who were her pride and joy: a son Jaidon Goldston, a 2023 NJCU alumnus; daughter Jordon Goldston, who will join our incoming class this fall; and youngest daughter Mamagirl Jaidah Goldston. She also cherished her two grandchildren, who brought immense happiness to her life.

A passionate traveler, Loyda embraced life fully, creating memories across Alaska, Japan, the Bahamas, Cancun, Bermuda, Disney World, and beyond — each adventure enriching her life with new memories and experiences.

Her presence on campus and her commitment to the university community will be deeply missed. Loyda's legacy lives on in every student she mentored, every colleague she inspired, and the family she loved so deeply. Her story—from EOF scholar to devoted advocate—exemplifies the transformative power of education and the profound impact one person can have on countless lives.
