NJCU is partnering with Seton Hall Law School to participate in February in the 13th ICC International Commercial Mediation Competition. This is the third year NJCU will participate alongside a partner law school at the prestigious International Chambers of Commerce competition, taking place in Paris. It is considered the oldest international mediation and negotiated based competition in the world. It is also the world's largest moot exclusively devoted to international commercial mediation.
NJCU undergraduate students Bhaumil Patel, who is a Chirag Patel Scholar, and Jake Buck are representing NJCU in the competition, scheduled for February 2-7, 2018.
Taking place over six days, students from diverse backgrounds will compete in approximately 150 mock mediation sessions to resolve international business disputes through mediation. Teams must adhere to the most current version of the ICC Mediations Rules and are guided by professionals.
More than 130 mediators and mediation trainers give their time to the competition each year. Some act as mediators, making use of their own experience in resolving cross-border disputes. Others take on the role of judges, assessing each team’s negotiating and problem-solving skills, as well as their ability to make good use of the mediator.
