Dr. Wattenmaker’s interests are in cognitive psychology, memory, behavioral neuroscience, and applied cognition. He has published numerous articles on memory and cognition in prestigious journals including the primary APA journal for Cognitive
Psychology. Dr. Wattenmaker’s research on memory has been supported by grant funds from the National Institute of Health. He has also served on editorial boards of major journals in the field, including the APA’s primary journal for Learning, Memory, and Cognition.
Dr. Wattenmaker co-founded the NJCU-RUTGERS Social Problem Solving Labs Program. He directed the program for over 20 years. The program developed innovative ways to teach decision making, anger management, and social skills to K-12 students in urban environments. The program benefited from numerous awards and successfully established preventive mental health labs in the Jersey City Public Schools and community.
Dr. Wattenmaker’s current research interests are in the areas of memory and aging, behavioral neuroscience, evolutionary psychology, and emotional intelligence.
Dr. Wattenmaker received M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
