The Accelerated BSN program is an innovative educational opportunity for college graduates that allows them to transition into entry-level clinical practice in only 12 months. Full-time study is required during this period.

Interested individuals with a bachelor's degree, who have completed the required prerequisite courses, are invited to apply to the program. Following admission and successful completion of the pre-licensure phase, students will be awarded a BSN degree and are eligible to take the required National Council of Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN®).

Program Updates

FAQ Program Admission Requirements Banner

Bachelor’s Degree

  • Must be from an accredited U.S. college or university.
  • If the degree is in progress, upload a graduation clearance letter to your NursingCAS application.
  • Degree must be conferred by May 2026.
  • International degrees must be evaluated by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES), such as World Education Services (WES) or Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. (ECE).

Undergraduate GPA

  • 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale is preferred.
  • While a 3.0 GPA is preferred, prospective students with a GPA below 3.0 are welcome to apply.

Transcripts

  • Official transcripts are required from all institutions where:
    • The bachelor's degree was awarded.
    • Prerequisite courses were completed and grades posted.
  • If you received transfer credit toward your bachelor’s degree, NursingCAS requires submission of all official transcripts reflecting final grades for any courses that were credited toward the undergraduate degree.

Recommendations

  • A minimum of two (2) electronic recommendations is required via NursingCAS.
  • Recommendations should come from a professor or supervisor.
  • Follow NursingCAS submission instructions.

Current Resume

  • Must be uploaded to your NursingCAS application.

Admission Essay

  • The essay question may change each year.
  • Instructions and the current admission essay question are available on the NJCU NursingCAS custom application webpage.

HESI Exam

  • A cumulative score of 80% is required.
  • A maximum of two (2) attempts is permitted to meet the exam score requirement.
  • Exam scores completed between October 2023 and February 2025 will be accepted.
  • Email your exam score report to: nursing@njcu.edu for consideration.

Prerequisite Coursework

  • Completion of 5 required prerequisite classes:
    • Must be completed within the past 10 years.
    • Must be completed in the United States.
  • At least 3 of the 5 prerequisite courses must be completed by the application deadline.
  • Only one of the 2 remaining (pending) prerequisite courses may be a science course.

NursingCAS is an online, centralized application service for nursing schools. NursingCAS processes your application and transcripts on behalf of the university. Applicants can review and confirm receipt of admission materials through their NursingCAS account.

Applications will be reviewed after the application deadline has closed.

Important Application Instructions

  • DO NOT apply directly to NJCU. Applications submitted outside of NursingCAS will not be processed.
  • All application materials must be submitted via NursingCAS 3.0.
  • Access to apply for the NJCU Accelerated BSN Program will be available through NursingCAS 3.0 during the application cycle.

Important Notes:
Please carefully follow all instructions specific to 鶹Ժ’s Accelerated BSN program.
Your application will not be considered until all sections in your NursingCAS application are fully completed and submitted, including:

  • Personal Information
  • Academic History
  • Supporting Information

All prerequisite courses must be completed with a grade of “C” or better to be considered for admission.

  • Each science course (Human Anatomy & Physiology I, Human Anatomy & Physiology II, and Microbiology) must be a minimum of 4 credits and include a lab component.
  • Prerequisites must be completed within the past 10 years, in the United States, and from an accredited institution.
  • Courses completed more than 10 years ago, completed outside the U.S., or from non-accredited schools will not be accepted.

Course Completion Timeline
Applicants may apply with up to two (2) prerequisite courses pending.
However:

  • Only one pending course may be a science course
  • All prerequisite courses must be completed by May 2026

Required Prerequisite Courses

  • Human Anatomy & Physiology I (4 credits, lab required)
  • Human Anatomy & Physiology II (4 credits, lab required)
  • Microbiology (4 credits, lab required)
  • Statistics (any discipline)
  • Developmental Psychology
    • Note: General Psychology and Intro to Psychology do not fulfill this requirement.
    • Must cover a developmental component, such as:
      • Lifespan Development
      • Birth through Adolescence
      • Child Psychology & Development
      • Human Growth & Development
    • Courses titled Lifespan Development, Child Psychology, or Human Growth and Development are acceptable alternatives

CLEP Substitution Option (Psychology Only)
Applicants with an outdated Developmental Psychology course or equivalent experience through multiple courses may substitute with a CLEP exam.

The HESI Admission Assessment Exam is a required component of the application process for the Accelerated BSN Program.

Registration Information

  • The registration period for the 2026 admission cycle opens on October 15, 2025.
  • Please allow 5–10 business days for registration processing before scheduling a test date.
  • The exam must be completed by February 16, 2026. No exceptions or extensions will be granted.

Exam Content

The exam covers the following areas:

  • Math
  • English
  • Science (limited to Anatomy & Biology) 
    Note: The NJCU custom exam does not include Chemistry or Physics.

Exam Requirements

  • A minimum score of 80% is required for consideration.
  • Applicants may take the exam a maximum of two (2) times within the admission cycle.
  • Applicants who score below 80% will be automatically ineligible for the program. No exceptions will be made.

You may submit your application before taking the HESI exam, but it must be completed by the February 16, 2026 deadline.

Important Notes

  • Plan ahead. Applicants are strongly encouraged to complete the exam several weeks before the deadline.
  • Extensions will not be granted for:
    • Late registration
    • Personal hardship
    • Technical difficulties
    • Weather-related delays

Score Submission

  • Applicants are NOT required to send exam scores to NursingCAS or the NJCU Nursing Department.
  • Exam scores are retrieved directly from Elsevier after the application deadline.
  • Make sure you use the correct Department ID number during registration (see instructions link)

Jersey City HESI Exam Registration Instructions

All questions regarding registration, processing time, and technical support must be directed to the Elsevier Customer Service Department. Registration instructions, Department ID number, and contact details are available through the official application instructions link.

鶹Ժ's Accelerated BSN program hosts one cohort of 60 students every Fall (September) at our Jersey City campus. A waiting list is created only when there are more qualified applicants than seats available. If no vacancies become available, applicants on the waiting list must re-apply the following year.

Program tuition rates per semester (3 semesters total) can be found on the Office of Student Accounts (Bursars Office) webpage.

In addition to any applicable tuition and/or fees, students in the Accelerated BSN program should expect to pay approximately $2,500 for required uniforms, books, and nursing equipment.
