The Writing Center is located on the first floor of the Guarini Library on the right-hand side of the building.
The Writing Center can help with essays, research papers, resumes, projects, presentations, and other essential college skills. We are also available as a study space for students. Please note that we are not a proofreading service; however, we can teach you how to proofread.
For subject-related (STEM, Business, etc.) tutoring, please visit the Learning Commons. They are located on the first floor of Guarini Library. To view their schedule, please visit the following link:
Students are allowed one appointment per day and up to two appointments per week. For special circumstances, please contact our director, Dr. Ann Wallace, via awallace@njcu.edu.
Please bring whatever assignment you are working on and all relevant materials, such as your course syllabus, the assignment’s rubric, any notes/annotations, and whatever device you are working with.
Students can book appointments up to two weeks in advance.
The Writing Center welcomes walk-ins! However, we suggest that you schedule an appointment in advance so we can guarantee a meeting with one of our tutors.
No, a referral from your professor is not required.
Upon request, we are able to inform your professor of your visit to the Writing Center.
Everyone and anyone! We take students at all writing levels and at any point of the writing process.
Yes! All writers need help sometimes.
The Writing Center is here to help you become a better writer— which includes learning to cite your sources properly! For help with citations and avoiding plagiarism, please come and meet with one of our tutors.
In short, we strongly discourage the use of A.I.
Please cancel your appointment via MyWCOnline or contact the Writing Center via writingcenter@njcu.edu or call us at 201-200-3513. Please note that all appointments have a 10-minute late policy, and two missed appointments (without notification) will result in your account being suspended for the current semester. Your MyWCOnline account will be reinstated the following semester.
When you arrive for your appointment, one of our front desk staff will greet you and inform your tutor that you are ready to work. Once seated, your tutor will ask you what you are working on, and your session will begin.
Each session will last up to fifty minutes.
That’s okay! Our tutors can help you at any stage of the process, including brainstorming and preparing to start your work.
All of our tutors are trained and ready to help you! However, if you are a student in ENG 100, ENG 101, or ENG 102 with an embedded tutor, please meet with that tutor for all work relating to your respective class.
No! Tutoring at the Writing Center is free for all NJCU students.
Tutors working at the Writing Center are required to take ENG 400, our tutor training course. To register for this class, please contact your advisor or email our director, Dr. Ann Wallace, at awallace@njcu.edu.
